| QUESTION: When will I get my Certificate of Registration from the U.S. Copyright Office? |
|
Once your application and work are submitted to c-Site, they are reviewed for completeness. You will be contacted if there are any questions. (Although c-Site reviews the application and work, there is no guarantee that the Copyright Office will approve your application; nor is there any guarantee that the Copyright Office will not raise additional questions or issues regarding either your application or your work.) Once the review is complete c-Site: (i) emails you confirmation of receipt; and (ii) deletes the electronic copy of your work from its files. Once the application and instructions are emailed to you, c-Site's services are complete. It is then your responsibility to file your copyright application, work and the mandatory federal filing fee, with the U.S. Copyright Office. (With c-Site's Express Filing service, c-Site submits the application, your work and the filing fee, to the U.S. Copyright Office, via 3-day express courier.) Whether you select c-Site's Express Filing service or not, the time the U.S. Copyright Office requires to process an application varies, depending on the overall number of applications and accompanying material it is receiving. If your application is in order, you can generally expect to receive a Certificate of Registration within 4-5 months of the submission date. |
